NO SUPPORT…

As of 2025, the Baja XL is an open-source, Wiki-based, community-led event with no fees, no money, no registration, no support and no central organizational authority.

Unlike sanitized “adventures” constrained by rigid rules and following in the footsteps of its Budapest-Bamako Rally from which it was spawned, the Baja XL embraces a philosophy of “Anyone, By Anything, In Any Way.”
This allows participates to tackle the peninsula using any vehicle and strategy they choose, requiring deep creativity and resourcefulness. The 10-day journey pushes both humans and machines to their absolute limits, testing physical endurance, mental resilience, and problem-solving skills in ways that few other experiences can match.

Raw, Untamed Wilderness.

While most of the world has been over-mapped and densely developed, the Baja XL route takes adventurers through some of North America’s last truly wild spaces.
The Baja XL is a chance to disconnect from the modern world and reconnect with the primal thrill of exploration in landscapes that defy imagination.

Participants will:

Navigate pristine beaches untouched by mass tourism
Conquer rugged mountain passes rarely traversed by vehicles
Traverse vast cactus forests that seem absolutely otherworldly
Experience the raw beauty of the Pacific Ocean, the Sea of Cortez and everything in between.
